Welcome to Photography for Beginners!

In this course, you will learn the basics of photography, so you can wow your friends and family with your awesome shooting skills. Who knows, maybe you will even develop a love for this art form that could stick with you throughout your whole life!

Now that you are here, signed up for the course and everything, let's first define what is expected from you during our four weeks together, starting with 3 basic rules:

You will take out of this course only as much as you put into it, so take the time to study and experiment.

Course Calendar and Timeline

This course is organized into four weeks; each week has a different module, with content you should read and assignments you should complete in order to get full marks for this course. Below is our course calendar; please note the days for our synchronous meetings. The meetings are always Saturday mornings, from 10 to 12. They may end sooner that the full two hours, but please plan for this slot in order to see the instructions, interact with your peers and share your learning.

Module 1: May 7th - May 13th

In this module, you will do:

In this module, you will learn:
  • Principles of Art
  • Focal Point and Rule of Thirds

In this module, you will deliver:
  • Principles of Art quiz
  • Eight photographs (see assignment for details)
  • Post your best shot in our class seesaw
  • Comment on two photos and respond to all comments made on your photos
Module 2: May 14th - May 20th

In this module, you will do: 
  • Meet synchronously on May 14th
In this module, you will Learn:
  • Lighting
In this module, you will deliver:
  • Six photographs (see assignment for details)
  • Post your two portrait pictures in our class seesaw
  • Comment on two photos and respond to all comments made on your photos
Module 3: May 21st - May 27th

In this module, you will do: 
  • Meet synchronously on May 21st
In this module, you will learn: 
  • Learn about Perspective
In this module, you will deliver: 
  • Four photographs (see assignment for details)
  • Bonus challenge
  • Post your best shot in our class seesaw
  • Comment on two photos and respond to all comments made on your photos
Module 4: May 28th - June 3rd

In this module, you will do: 
  • Meet synchronously on May 28th
In this module, you will learn: 
  • Background, Foregroung and Tension
  • Putting it all together
In this module, you will deliver: 
  • Ten photographs (see assignment for details)
  • Post your best shot in our class seesaw
  • Comment on two photos and respond to all comments made on your photos
  • Final feedback survey
